We have scheduled three education events. There is no charge for any of them, and we hope you will take advantage of as many as you can. So that we have an approximate attendance idea, please indicate on the Hospitality Reservation Form which you plan to attend.
Handling Seminar with Laurin Howard
Scheduled for Monday afternoon at the Marriott Hotel, 4:30-7:00 PM.
Laurin has been showing dogs for 20 years and has been a professional handler for 17 years. She's finished dogs from every group and has won over 50 Group Firsts and 13 Best in Shows. She's been teaching conformation classes for 16 years and has done numerous clinics for all-breed clubs.
The purpose of this seminar is to teach people to show their own dogs -- smoothly, confidently, and with enjoyment. The emphasis will be making the basics second nature and presenting the dogs with poise and pride. Bring your dog, your lead, your bait and your sense of humor!
First Aid Seminar with Dr. Kelly Tart, DVM
Scheduled for Wednesday at the Fairgrounds, 3:30-4:30 PM
Dr. Kelly Tart is a practicing vet at a local emergency vet clinic. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in veterinary medicine and did specialized training in emergency medicine and critical care in Milwaukee at the Veterinary Institute of Trauma, Emergency and Critical Care. She has worked in multiple area emergency clinics during undergrad and graduate school as a technician and is currently working at the Animal Emergency Clinic in St. Paul.
The clinic will cover when and how to recognize an emergency, common emergencies, what to do until veterinary help can be sought, and suggestions for first aid kit necessities and recommendations.
Conformation Seminar with Roger Orton
Scheduled for Wednesday at the Fairgrounds, 4:30-6:30 PM
Roger Orton has shown Flat-Coats for many years and is also a breeder and a judge. He has been a member of the FCRSA since 1982. This will be an in-depth and frank discussion of Flat-Coat type as described by our Breed Standard. The Standard will be broken down into its various parts such as eyes, ears, tail set and coat. Each part will be discussed using real dogs to show variances in type. Participants will have the opportunity to evaluate for themselves each part on the canine volunteer.
